03/16/2004 | Seattle-Area Airport Wants FAA to Foot More of Cost of Third Runway
Mar. 16--WASHINGTON - Officials from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are canvassing Capitol Hill to drum up political support for an unprecedented request for federal money. Sea-Tac wants the Federal Aviation Administration to add $198.1 million to the $216.5 million the agency already pledged to build a third runway. That is over $400 million in Federal Funding for one runway?. The airport argues that federally mandated environmental protection caused construction costs to skyrocket, so the federal government should help to pay the price.
If the FAA grants Sea-Tac's wish, it would be the largest gift of federal dollars to build a runway anywhere in the country.

Maybe the airport should not be expanded?
