The System is Broken and Must be Fixed ---

Read to community leaders via public forum by Haverford member.

I am a member of the Coalition of Communities against Runway 17-35. We are a citizen group that was formed approximately six weeks ago. Our goal is to unite communities in Delaware County, and neighboring communities, to block the extension of Philadelphia International Airport Runway 17-35. After this issue is settled, the coalition intends to remain in tack, in order to protect the interest of all communities that could be adversely affected by future airport proposals.

The public has joined us in our concerns of the dangers the runway extension posses to our communities. The FAA has heard our concerns. The people who live in the flight path of Runway 17-35 have voiced their opposition to the extension. Civic groups have stepped forward and voiced their opposition.

Community leaders from the region have said “NO” to the harms of the runway extension. Representatives from different schools and hospitals have expressed their concerns on the negative impact the runway will have on their teachers, students and recovering patients.

Safety concerns from various fire and police departments were expressed.

Responsible legislators have spoken out against the expansion. In doing so, they are honoring their commitment to protect, from legislation and other forces, that which would create harm to the quality of life to the citizens they represent.

Is the goal of the FAA to reach out to the various communities that will be affected by the runway extension, to determine their support or opposition to a proposal? If so, the Runway 17-35 Extension proposal answer is coming to them, loud and clear, No, No, No.

The 17-35 Runway Extension proposal is a legitimate threat to our quality of life and we are against the proposal. I am under the belief strong public opposition will determine if the 17-35 Runway Extension proposal will be defeated.
